Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance that is found in the human body. It is present in many different places, but most commonly it is found in our skin, eyes, and joints. The production of Hyaluronic Acid by our bodies decreases as we age, which can lead to several issues including dry skin, wrinkles, and joint pain. Today, we will be focusing on the daily benefits of Hyaluronic Acid for our largest organ: our skin!

  1. Hydration

Skin, the most visible part of our body, is also one of the most vulnerable to external elements. From sun damage to pollution and dryness, we are constantly at risk for having skin that looks tired, dry, or damaged.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) binds water, and maintains, nourishes, and locks it within our skin epidermis. This results in plumper, healthier looking skin. This also aids with the appearance of wrinkles, due to dehydrated skin being one of the main causes of skin sagging and lines.

  1. Firmer Skin

As we age, our skin loses elasticity. It becomes less able to retain moisture and nutrients, which can lead to a lack of elasticity.

Although HA cannot increase the level of elastin within our skin, it can certainly help with the appearance of tighter, firmer skin due to its hydrating properties.

  1. Skin Cell Regeneration

Your skin is your body's first line of defence against the outside world. It protects you from dirt, germs, and infections. But it also needs to be protected, and that's where HA comes in!

When applied topically, it helps with cell regeneration and barrier protection. This leads to healthier skin cells and a smoother complexion appearance overall.

  1. Even Skin Tone

As if you needed another reason to love hyaluronic acid, here's one more: it can help to even your skin tone.

It can aid with dark spots, pigmentation, and ageing marks. When combined with Vitamin C, much like our Emilie's Botanicals HA Serum formulation, it can help treat dark spots permanently and seamlessly even out skin tones.

HA is also known to be an effective ingredient in treating rosacea as it helps reduce redness and inflammation while also adding moisture back into the skin cells.

  1. Helps To Fight Acne

Low levels of HA can unfortunately result in the overproduction of oils within our skin. When dead skin cells build up in this way, it leads to clogged pores and breakouts.

The best way to prevent this from happening is by keeping your HA levels high, which in turn will help you keep the oils that get secreted by your skin where they belong—on the surface of your face!
